Comparison: Brita Jug vs. PUR Jug

It’s no secret that the home water treatment market is saturated. There are many good products on the market and what you purchase depends on what your needs are. You should ask yourself:

  1. Am I treating tap water or raw well/lake water?
  2. Do I need a treatment device for my tap water?
  3. What do I need the treatment device to remove?
  4. How much water do I need?

Today, we are comparing a Brita Jug filter vs.  a PUR jug filter. The uses of these filters are only for municipally treated tap water. The volume is for a household of perhaps 2-3 people who like a glass or two of water per day. The units are both intended to do the same job and look very similar:

I’ve made a small table to compare the two, as follows:

Brita 42412 Atlantis Water Pitcher PUR CR-6000 2 Stage Oval Water Pitcher

As you can see from above, both units are equal in performance and both will do the job they are intended for, and that is to remove taste and odors from municipal tap water. I think the criteria to purchase either should be if you find your municipally treated tap waters taste or odor objectionable and have 2-3 people who drink a few glasses of cold water per day (each unit will give you 6-7 glasses of water per load). My personal preference would be to purchase the PUR unit. This unit holds a bit more water, is slightly less expensive and they give a portion of each purchase to a charity that provides clean drinking water in Africa.
